9 documented MongoDB Atlas cost inefficiencies, each with how to detect it and how to fix it.
MongoDB AtlasCER-0326
MongoDB Atlas offers two backup mechanisms for dedicated clusters: Cloud Backups (scheduled snapshots using the underlying cloud provider's native snapshot functionality) and Continuous Cloud Backup, which adds point-in-time recovery by...
MongoDB AtlasCER-0531
A dedicated MongoDB Atlas cluster is billed per hour for each data-bearing node at the rate of its cluster tier (M10, M30, M50 and so on), and the tier fixes the node's RAM, CPU, default storage and storage speed. A replica set pays for...
MongoDB AtlasCER-0532
Atlas compute auto-scaling moves a dedicated cluster between a minimum and maximum tier based on sustained CPU and memory usage, so clusters with daily or weekly load cycles can run on a smaller tier outside their peaks. In the Atlas UI,...
MongoDB AtlasCER-0533
Atlas Cloud Backup takes scheduled snapshots of dedicated clusters and bills the retained snapshot storage per GB-month. The default backup policy is generous: snapshots every 6 hours (every 12 on NVMe clusters) kept for 7 days, daily...
MongoDB AtlasCER-0534
Dedicated Atlas clusters are billed per hour for every data-bearing node whether or not any application is connected. Development, test, QA and demo clusters are typically used during working hours or for the length of a project, yet they...
MongoDB AtlasCER-0535
Atlas storage auto-scaling, enabled by default for new clusters, increases a cluster's disk when used space reaches 90% on any node, and it scales storage up only. When a cluster grows past its tier's default storage, Atlas bills the full...
MongoDB AtlasCER-0536
Event, log, audit, order-history and time-series collections in MongoDB tend to grow without limit, while applications query only recent documents. When older documents stay on the cluster, they occupy disk on every data-bearing node,...
MongoDB AtlasCER-0537
MongoDB Atlas offers two paid cluster types. Dedicated clusters (M10 and above) bill per hour for each data-bearing node, and MongoDB's billing guidance says they start at about $60 per month. Flex clusters run on shared infrastructure,...
MongoDB AtlasCER-0538
Atlas bills outgoing data transfer from cluster nodes daily, priced by cloud provider and by the regions of the source and destination. Transfer within the same region is the cheapest, transfer to a different region costs more, and...
