Meet the Founders of PointFive

From Stealth to Launch

In June 2024, PointFive launched publicly after eighteen months of development. The founding vision was to create a product that enables engineers to prioritize cloud cost efficiency while supporting both engineering and FinOps teams in working together effectively.

How It Started

The idea for PointFive emerged somewhat serendipitously. Co-founders Gal Ben David, Amir Hozez, and Alon Arvatz were transitioning cloud operations from their previous cybersecurity company, IntSights, to Rapid7 following the acquisition. During that transition, they identified significant cloud cost inefficiencies but found the available tools inadequate for addressing them at the depth required. That experience planted the seed for what would become PointFive.

A Cybersecurity Mindset Applied to FinOps

Rather than building another dashboard-first cost visibility tool, the founders leveraged their security background to differentiate their approach. They applied the same principles that made them successful in cybersecurity to the challenge of cloud cost optimization:

  • A dedicated 5x Research Team that maps cloud cost inefficiencies the way a threat research team maps attack vectors -- continuously hunting for new patterns and novel waste
  • DeepWaste Detection technology that provides actionable insights and real-time visibility into cloud inefficiencies, going beyond surface-level recommendations to uncover hidden savings

These innovations positioned PointFive to address gaps that existing market solutions were leaving untouched.

Why the Name "PointFive"

The company name reflects the founders' core mission: helping customers achieve fifty percent (point five) cloud cost savings, with half the effort, in half the time. The alignment between the name and the company's purpose serves as a constant reminder of the ambitious goals the team is working toward.

Building the Team

The founders emphasized that assembling the right team has been central to PointFive's early success -- bringing together committed professionals who maintain a culture of energy and ambition while pursuing the goal of transforming how enterprises manage cloud costs.
