Overview
Background
Fanatics Commerce is a global leader in licensed fan merchandise. It supports large-scale online retail operations with dynamic inventory and fulfillment needs. Fanatics Commerce established strong reporting practices across its AWS environment as a result of its mature FinOps practice.
But cloud spend continued to rise, particularly across EC2, S3, and RDS instances. The team needed an actionable way to reduce costs and improve visibility
Challenges
At this time, Fanatics Commerce was already in the “Run” phase of FinOps maturity, with FinOps practices fully embedded into the organization. Despite this, it faced friction when moving from inefficiency awareness to action. A key pain point was its EKS instance. Shared clusters obscured detailed insights, making it difficult to break down spend and target inefficiencies. This made it important to address costs at the instance level.
To make real changes in their cloud efficiency, Fanatics Commerce required a prescriptive solution. The solution needed to surface savings opportunities across all services, eliminate the need for manual investigation by engineers before remediation, and make it easier to route remediation recommendations to the accountable engineering teams.

Solution
The Fanatics Commerce team turned to PointFive to solve these challenges. PointFive lowers cloud costs by improving its overall efficiency footprint. The team included the following engineering leaders:
Ryan Flynn - Sr. Staff Cloud Engineer,
Tim Dwyer - Staff Cloud Engineer,
Nipun Ahuja - Senior Engineering Manager
Kshitiz Garg - Director Software Engineering
The team integrated PointFive into their AWS environment with minimal lift. PointFive helped Fanatics Commerce shift from setup to value. In just a few weeks, PointFive introduced the team to new layers of insight.
PointFive’s Analytics module gave the team flexible, granular reporting across services and environments. The Opportunities module surfaced real savings opportunities, like EBS volumes still attached to stopped EC2 instances and inactive CloudWatch groups, cases that had been missed previously.
These insights were more than visible. They were actionable. By using the PointFive platform, Fanatics Commerce assigned ownership, prioritized remediation efforts by financial impact, and eliminated the need to toggle between multiple dashboards or tools.
Results
PointFive consolidated all recommendations in one place and improved visibility into complex services like EKS. PointFive Turned Fanatics Commerce cost reporting into cost optimization.
Fanatics Commerce now benefits from the following:
“PointFive allows us to quickly and easily get actionable cost savings recommendations in front of our engineers.”
Director of Engineering
Conclusion
PointFive helped Fanatics Commerce elevate its mature FinOps practice and shift from tracking cloud costs to actively reducing them, faster and more confidently.
