# Best Snowflake Cost Optimization Tools (2026): An Honest, Comparison-Driven Guide

PointFive Team October 9, 2026 12 min read

Disclosure: PointFive wrote this guide, and PointFive is listed first because it is our platform, not because of a ranking. Every competitor statement comes from that vendor's own website, documentation or press release, checked in October 2026, and linked in the sources. Where a vendor publishes nothing, we say so.

## TLDR

- Most Snowflake waste sits in idle or oversized warehouses, inefficient queries, storage retention, auto-clustering, serverless features and now Cortex AI. Start with Snowflake's native controls, which improved a lot in 2026.

- Specialists split into tools that change warehouse settings or route queries for you (Keebo, Seemore Data, SELECT, Espresso AI, Yuki) and tools that show and govern what to fix (Capital One Slingshot, Anavsan), with Revefi doing both.

- 2026 reshuffled the market: DoiT acquired SELECT, Flexera acquired Chaos Genius, and Snowflake shipped Adaptive Compute, per-user quotas and anomaly monitors.

- PointFive is the agentic FinOps platform for companies whose Snowflake bill is one part of a larger cloud, data and AI bill: it finds Snowflake waste such as idle warehouses, oversized clusters and high-churn auto-clustering alongside 40+ other platforms, traces each finding to its technical cause, and helps engineers fix it.

## The Snowflake cost levers in brief

- Warehouse size and auto-suspend: each size step doubles credits (an X-Small bills 1 credit per hour, a 4X-Large 128), billed per second after a 60-second minimum. Snowflake recommends a low auto-suspend, "5 or 10 minutes or less", but not shorter than the gaps between your queries. Across dozens of enterprise environments, PointFive found [34% of warehouse spend came from idle warehouses](https://www.pointfive.co/blog/34-percent-snowflake-spend-idle-warehouses) .

- Query efficiency: full scans and poor pruning burn credits. In PointFive's own account, filtering data earlier cut cost 35%, and the full program cut daily credits 85% ([how we did it](https://www.pointfive.co/blog/we-practice-what-we-preach-how-pointfive-slashed-snowflake-costs-by-85) ).

- Storage, Time Travel and Fail-safe: permanent tables add 7 days of Fail-safe and up to 90 days of Time Travel on Enterprise Edition; transient tables for short-lived ETL data avoid Fail-safe costs.

- Auto-clustering: serverless, and the more a table changes, the more it costs. Resource monitors cannot cap it. Tables created from September 1, 2026 use Optima Clustering, billed on ingested data volume rather than compute hours.

- Serverless features: Query Acceleration, search optimization, materialized views, Snowpipe and tasks bill separately; Query Acceleration is on by default in Gen2 and multi-cluster warehouses.

- Cortex AI: AI functions consume credits "based on token or page usage" and are tracked in CORTEX\_AI\_FUNCTIONS\_USAGE\_HISTORY.

## How we evaluated

We compared each option on six dimensions, unweighted:

- Snowflake depth: warehouses, queries, storage, clustering, serverless, Cortex AI.

- Action: recommendations, or automatic changes with guardrails.

- Data access: metadata only, or query text in the path.

- Breadth: Snowflake only, other data platforms, or the wider cloud and AI bill.

- Allocation: cost by team, warehouse, user or query.

- Pricing model: as publicly stated.

## The tools

### 1. PointFive (PointFive OS and TokenShift)

Category: Agentic FinOps platform (waste detection and remediation across cloud, data and AI)

Best for: Enterprises running Snowflake alongside other clouds, data platforms and AI providers that want one place to find and fix waste.

[PointFive OS](https://www.pointfive.co/products/pointfive-os) , "The Agentic FinOps Platform for your Cloud, Data & AI", runs 500+ deep detections ([DeepWaste](https://www.pointfive.co/products/pointfive-os/deepwaste) ) across 40+ [platforms](https://www.pointfive.co/coverage) . For Snowflake it analyzes warehouse utilization, query efficiency, storage costs and auto-clustering spend, and detects idle warehouses, oversized clusters, excessive auto-clustering costs from high-churn tables, and snapshot storage waste, without accessing query text or data. It also attributes Snowflake Cortex AI spend next to other AI providers. Teams investigate in Chat with the Pointer agent and delegate recurring work to Coworkers. [TokenShift](https://www.pointfive.co/products/tokenshift) , "The unified control plane for every AI agent", covers AI agent usage.

- Strengths: Snowflake findings tied to their technical cause, next to cloud, Databricks and AI spend. Read-only discovery. [Remediation](https://www.pointfive.co/products/pointfive-os/agentic-remediation) as prompts engineers run in their own IDE, or automatically under the approval model each customer sets. Rated 4.9/5 on G2.

- Limitations: No self-serve tier or public price list. Automated remediation requires customer-authorized write permissions, which security teams will want to review. If Snowflake is your only cost and you want hands-off warehouse tuning, a specialist below may be a simpler fit.

- Pricing: Custom; contact sales. Also on AWS Marketplace and Azure Marketplace.

- Choose it if: Snowflake is one of several large line items and the gap is fixing waste, not seeing it. Nubank saved $8.2M in 9 months with PointFive; Dolby is also a customer.

### 2. Snowflake native controls (as of October 2026)

Category: Built-in cost visibility, controls and optimization

Best for: Every Snowflake customer, as the baseline.

Snowsight's Account Overview (GA at Summit 2026) shows budget health, open anomalies and credits by service type. Weekly Optimization insights flag items such as rarely used clustered tables and warehouses with long idle gaps. Budgets cover warehouses, serverless features and AI services; resource monitors can suspend warehouses but cover nothing else. 2026 added per-user quotas that can block AI access (GA, August), tag-scoped anomaly monitors (preview, August) and Adaptive Compute (GA, June 16), which removes warehouse sizing and suspend settings.

- Strengths: First-party data, no procurement, real enforcement through monitors and quotas.

- Limitations: Budgets only alert unless you add a custom action, and hourly refresh raises their cost 12x. Insights are per account; fixes are manual. Adaptive Compute needs Enterprise Edition.

- Pricing: Included; budgets and serverless features consume credits.

- Choose it if: Always, and first.

### 3. Keebo (as of October 2026)

Category: Autonomous warehouse optimization

Best for: Teams that want warehouse settings tuned continuously without engineering effort.

Keebo offers "Autonomous Optimization for Snowflake and Databricks". It changes warehouse size, auto-suspend and maximum cluster count within guardrails you define, leaves data, clustering keys and queries alone, and "never sees query text or result data".

- Strengths: Hands-off tuning with per-warehouse exclusions; pricing tied to savings; 14-day trial.

- Limitations: Warehouse settings only; query rewrites and storage are out of scope by design.

- Pricing: Pay-as-you-go from $0 per month, where each credit saved counts as one Keebo Credit; or a custom Enterprise subscription ([pricing](https://keebo.ai/pricing) ).

- Choose it if: Warehouse sizing and idle time are your biggest Snowflake leak.

### 4. SELECT, now part of DoiT (as of October 2026)

Category: Data cloud cost observability with automated savings

Best for: Data teams that want visibility, allocation and automated warehouse savings in one tool.

SELECT offers "Cost intelligence for every data cloud": insights, anomaly monitors, Usage Groups for allocation, and Automated Savings that adjust warehouses continuously. SELECT for Databricks is now available. In January 2026 DoiT announced it had acquired SELECT, which becomes "PerfectScale for Snowflake" in DoiT's platform; DoiT said contracts and pricing would not change.

- Strengths: Allocation, monitoring and automated savings together. Snowflake customers can pay with existing Snowflake credits.

- Limitations: Branding is moving to DoiT, so confirm roadmap and contract owner.

- Pricing: Custom quote, starting at $1,499/month ([pricing](https://select.dev/pricing) ).

- Choose it if: You want an established Snowflake specialist and may already work with DoiT.

### 5. Seemore Data (as of October 2026)

Category: Snowflake cost control and warehouse optimization

Best for: Snowflake-only teams that want autonomous warehouse tuning plus lineage-based cost context.

Seemore Data ("See more, Save more, Optimize smarter") offers SmartPulse hourly autonomous warehouse optimization, Auto-Shutdown, AI Auto-Clustering, anomaly detection, domain budgets and column-level Deep Lineage with cost per node. Databricks support is in early access.

- Strengths: Warehouses, clustering and pipelines, with lineage showing what drives cost.

- Limitations: Snowflake only for now. No published pricing.

- Pricing: Not published; free trial and demo.

- Choose it if: You want warehouse automation plus lineage to the pipelines behind spend.

### 6. Revefi (as of October 2026)

Category: FinOps, observability and optimization for data and AI

Best for: Teams that want data observability and cost optimization across several warehouses.

Revefi offers "FinOps, Observability and Optimization for your AI and Data" across Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift and LLM providers. Its AI DBA, launched June 1, 2026 in the enterprise package, handles query optimization, warehouse right-sizing and idle cleanup, taking "autonomous savings actions" and asking for approval when needed.

- Strengths: Broad platform coverage, data quality and cost together, free Starter plan.

- Limitations: Paid plans scale with spend. The launch cites a "read-only integration" without explaining write access for autonomous actions.

- Pricing: Starter free under $50K combined annual spend; paid plans "Based on % of data platform spend" ([pricing](https://www.revefi.com/pricing) ).

- Choose it if: You also need data quality monitoring across multiple warehouses.

### 7. Yuki (as of October 2026)

Category: Query routing layer for Snowflake and BigQuery

Best for: Teams with many warehouses and mixed workloads that can change a connection string.

Yuki is an "Autonomous Contextual Execution Layer for Data Platforms". Clients connect to Yuki instead of Snowflake, and it routes each query to the right warehouse, consolidating workloads and removing idle compute. It deploys in your cloud; for BigQuery it routes jobs between on-demand and reservation billing.

- Strengths: No code changes; on AWS and Snowflake marketplaces; free analysis and trial.

- Limitations: It sits in the query path and sees query text to route it, which security teams will review.

- Pricing: Not published.

- Choose it if: Idle and fragmented warehouses are the problem and you accept a routing layer.

### 8. Capital One Slingshot (as of October 2026)

Category: Snowflake cost and performance management

Best for: Large enterprises standardizing Snowflake governance across many accounts.

Slingshot, from Capital One Software, offers cost, performance and usage dashboards, custom tagging, warehouse scheduling templates, sizing recommendations, a query advisor and spend-spike alerts.

- Strengths: Scheduling and governance for many teams; 90-day trial for up to 5 accounts.

- Limitations: Snowflake Enterprise and Business Critical editions only; the trial is AWS, US regions, US entities.

- Pricing: Not published.

- Choose it if: You want warehouse scheduling and governance templates at enterprise scale.

### 9. Flexera Data Cloud Optimization, formerly Chaos Genius (as of October 2026)

Category: Snowflake and Databricks optimization inside a FinOps suite

Best for: Flexera customers adding data cloud optimization.

Flexera announced its acquisition of Chaos Genius on January 6, 2026, and describes Chaos Genius as "an innovator in agentic AI for optimizing Snowflake and Databricks", and its FinOps menu now lists Data Cloud Optimization as "Visibility and rightsizing for Databricks and Snowflake".

- Strengths: Snowflake and Databricks in one module, within a broad FinOps portfolio.

- Limitations: Integration into Flexera is ongoing; check roadmap and packaging.

- Pricing: Not published.

- Choose it if: Flexera is already your FinOps vendor.

### 10. Espresso AI (as of October 2026)

Category: ML-driven autonomous warehouse optimization

Best for: Teams that want savings-only pricing for automated Snowflake or Databricks tuning.

Espresso AI "automates performance engineering with ML" for Snowflake and Databricks, with agents that "run autonomously and optimize your data warehouses in real-time".

- Strengths: Fee only on savings; no onboarding costs, minimums or commitments; setup is one SQL command plus configuration.

- Limitations: Little public detail on guardrails; ask how changes are reversed.

- Pricing: A share of savings achieved; rate not published.

- Choose it if: You want to trial autonomous tuning with no fixed cost.

### 11. Anavsan (as of October 2026)

Category: Workload governance for Snowflake and BigQuery

Best for: Teams that need ownership and accountability for waste, including Cortex spend.

Anavsan is "the Workload Governance Platform for Snowflake and BigQuery", powered by its APEX agent. It ranks waste across idle compute, queries, storage and Cortex usage, assigns owners and closes findings when the metric recovers. Snowflake extras include a Native App and a Cortex Cost Simulator.

- Strengths: Published pricing, a free tier and Cortex cost tracking.

- Limitations: Snowflake and BigQuery only; no Databricks.

- Pricing: Monitoring free for one account; Accountability $1,750/month per account; Enforcement 3-5% of governed credits ([homepage](https://anavsan.com/) ).

- Choose it if: Waste persists because nobody owns it.

### 12. CloudZero (as of October 2026)

Category: Cost allocation and unit economics

Best for: SaaS companies that need Snowflake cost per customer or feature.

CloudZero's Snowflake integration "attributes every Snowflake credit to the team, product, or query behind it", including warehouse queries, Cortex calls and storage, and calculates cost per customer, feature and query.

- Strengths: Unit economics and owner-routed anomaly alerts across cloud and Snowflake.

- Limitations: The integration page describes allocation, not optimization actions.

- Pricing: "Single subscription with all capabilities included"; custom quote.

- Choose it if: Finance needs Snowflake unit costs next to cloud costs.

### 13. Vantage (as of October 2026)

Category: Cost visibility and allocation

Best for: Engineering teams that want self-serve Snowflake reporting next to cloud spend.

Vantage connects through "a secure, read-only user that has access to Snowflake usage tables" and breaks costs down by warehouse, user, query and query tag.

- Strengths: Public pricing with a free tier; Snowflake next to cloud spend.

- Limitations: The Snowflake docs describe reporting, not Snowflake recommendations.

- Pricing: Starter free; Pro $30/month; Business $200/month; Enterprise custom ([pricing](https://www.vantage.sh/pricing) ).

- Choose it if: You want Snowflake allocation reports without a sales cycle.

## How to choose

- You have not tuned anything yet: set budgets, resource monitors and auto-suspend, and read Optimization insights.

- Warehouses are oversized or idle: Keebo, Seemore Data, Espresso AI or SELECT for automated tuning; Yuki if you accept a routing layer; or test Adaptive Compute.

- You need observability and data quality across warehouses: Revefi or SELECT.

- Waste persists because nobody owns it: Anavsan or Capital One Slingshot.

- Snowflake is one of many large bills: PointFive to find and fix waste across Snowflake, cloud, Databricks and AI; CloudZero or Vantage for allocation. See [how platforms price compute](https://www.pointfive.co/guides/comparing-cloud-cost-models-aws-azure-gcp-databricks-snowflake) .

Trial on a real workload, track latency next to credits, and separate estimated from realized savings. See [how to choose a cloud cost tool](https://www.pointfive.co/guides/how-to-choose-a-cloud-cost-tool) .

## FAQ

### What is the best tool to reduce Snowflake costs?

It depends on the gap. Start with Snowflake's budgets, resource monitors, auto-suspend and Optimization insights. For hands-off warehouse tuning, consider Keebo, Seemore Data, SELECT or Espresso AI; for query routing, Yuki; for observability with data quality, Revefi. If Snowflake is one of several large bills and the problem is fixing waste, PointFive covers it alongside 40+ other platforms.

### Are Snowflake's built-in cost tools enough?

For smaller accounts, often yes, especially after 2026's quotas, anomaly monitors and Adaptive Compute. The gaps are per-account insights, manual fixes and no view of spend outside Snowflake.

### Do Snowflake optimization tools need my query text or data?

Not always. Keebo and PointFive state they do not access query text or data; routing layers such as Yuki must see queries to route them. Ask each vendor which views and privileges it uses.

### How are Snowflake cost tools priced?

Share of savings (Keebo pay-as-you-go, Espresso AI), percentage of spend (Revefi, Anavsan Enforcement), flat subscription (SELECT from $1,499/month, Anavsan Accountability, Vantage) and custom quotes (PointFive, CloudZero). Seemore Data, Yuki, Slingshot and Flexera do not publish pricing.

### What changed in Snowflake cost tools in 2026?

DoiT acquired SELECT, which becomes PerfectScale for Snowflake inside DoiT. Flexera acquired Chaos Genius. Revefi launched its AI DBA. Snowflake shipped Adaptive Compute, per-user quotas, anomaly monitors and Optima Clustering billing.

### Does PointFive optimize Snowflake?

Yes. PointFive detects idle warehouses, oversized clusters, excessive auto-clustering from high-churn tables and snapshot storage waste, without accessing query text or data, alongside cloud, Databricks and AI spend.
